Hi Paul, The new link to the instructions is below. There are a number of possible issues. The hand transmitters could be faulty or need new batteries. Depending on the age of the operator it may have an external receiver or the later models had a build in receiver but there could be a fault with the receiver. I would start by trying new batteries and going through the code in procedure. If it is an internal receiver then the procedure is as follows:

1.Press and hold the ‘PRG’ button.
2.After a few seconds the display should show a ‘1’ then a flashing ‘L’
3.You can now release the ‘PRG’ button.
4.Press and release the ‘PRG’ button once –the display should show a ‘P’ then a flashing ‘0’
5.Press and hold the ‘PRG’ button until the small ‘dot’ at the bottom right of the display also starts flashing, then release the ‘PRG’ button.
6. Press and hold the button on the hand transmitter you want to code in to the head unit
7. The ‘0.’ On the display will start to flash quickly then revert back to just the ‘0’ flashing slowly without the dot illuminated. You can now release the button on the hand control.
8. Press and release the ‘PRG’ twice until the display shows ‘0’ ‐ after a few seconds the display will change to a horizontal line to indicate the door position and you have exited the program mode.

The hand transmitter is now coded in to the head unit.

We have just moved into a house with a Hormann Supramatic Series 2. I have reset and it is automatically opening and closing correctly when pressing up/down button, but none of the remotes the owners left are working. The link above to the instructions doesn’t work any longer – can you help?

Luke

If the down arrow has failed on the front of the head unit then there is no other way to reset the door unfortunately. There should be a back stop on the boom that you can adjust to stop the traveller moving too far back but you would need to reset the door after moving this. Occasionally it is possible to get the down arrow to work enough to reset the door but if it has failed completely you would need to replace the head unit.

John

Hello

The down arrow on my Supramatic E2 operator will not operate the door (nothing happens) Consequently, I can’t go through the full reset programme. Once I close the door manually, the contact point on the belt disengages from the cage and gets carried too close to the operator to re-engage it (unless I disconnect the operator first and physically push the belt back towards the door.

The remotes will not work at all while in L mode.

Any advice ?

Luke

Hi Deryck,
It would be useful to check the error code 4 you mention. Do you know what series supramatic you have? as the error codes are different for each series. It could be a mechanical issue with the door itself if heat and expansion are causing the door to operate with a little more resistance. Some adjustments to the hinges or spring tension could possibly resolve this. Alternatively, it could be an issue with the heat effecting circuits in the control unit. If it is an issue with the electronics, then the control unit would need to be changed.

Deryck Pyne

Hello,
Do you have any thoughts regarding a problem with my Surpramatic E.
Only during very warm weather, it throws out an error message 4. Which causes the door to stop start, up and down. This is totally cured by switching power off, untill the next warm day. Winter time is trouble free.
Many thanks
Deryck

Hi Geoff,
The old Hormann big hand transmitters with a single green button used dip switches to set their code. There should be a series of dip switches inside the hand transmitter and they should match the working hand transmitter. Each dip switch is numbered 1, 2 etc and are either on or off and you need to make sure that the sequence is the same as the working hand transmitter. If it is and the hand transmitter is not operating the door it is likely that it has failed. We do supply compatible hand tranmitters for these but these don’t use dip switches and code in like the modern versions. You can see these on our spares site at the link below.

Hello guys I am hoping you can help me please
I have inherited a property as both my parents have now died. The garage is fitted with a Hormann supramatic s power unit. We have no keys to manually open or lock the door, we do however have 2 remote controls (large green button) of which one is working. The remote not working is sending out a signal but appears to be unable to control the motor, is there a way I can re-establish the link?

Kind regards and many thanks in advance
Geoff

Hi Terry,
For the photocells to work you would normally need to set dip swich ‘D’ to the on position on the set of dip switches A-F underneath the photocell connections.
Also have you tried resetting the operator after the photocells are installed as follows…

1. Turn off the main power supply to the operator at the plug socket.
2. Turn the power back on while holding down the red LED button on the underside of the operator. Wait for the red LED button to flash before releasing the button.
3. Press and release the red LED button. The courtesy light should flash and the door should now move into the open position and then continue to move into the closed and open position a number of times to automatically set the doors open and closed limits.
4. Once the door has come to a stop the limits should be fully reset.

Thanks

Luke

I have the P2 motor here in Norway with a set of photocells attached. The light is on, on both photocells( 2 wires to each ) showing they have power. When the signal is interrupted another light is seen but the door will not stop and reverse. Inside the wiring area there is 2 places for telephone like jacks. 1 has a blue wire I am assuming is the jumper, the other 1 has been removed. Without a wiring diagram I assume 1 jack is for photocell jumper and the other is for emergency stop such as door in door contact. It almost seems to be the contact from the photocell in the motor has failed to react. Any thoughts?

Vipul

Tried pairing a new remote to a Supra E2.

Went through then process of selecting P, hen on 0 got the . Hit the button on the remote and got the fast flashes.

After this I got a U on the display

Any ideas on how to resolve greatly appreciated

Thanks

Luke

‘U’ usually means the operator needs resetting. You should be able to reset the limits by following the procedure on the article above – ‘Resetting the Hormann Supramatic Series 2 Operator’.

Andrew Simpson

Hi I have a Hormann supramatic b2 and whilst the like turns on and off it only stays on for about 20 ~ 30 seconds max regardless of how long I programme it to be on. All menus work (door opening/closing, light etc) and light does come on when opening/closing and via remote but again only for a short time and then won’t come for a minute or (as if it needs to cool down – although it’s not actually hot). Unit clicks each time I press remote (light mapped to the 2nd button) so I don’t think it is circuit and I’ve replaced bulb with a new one. Help.

Luke

Hi Andrew,
This is not a problem I have come accross before. Exactly which operator are you using? Do you mean a Supramatic E2? What procedure are you using to change the light timer settings?

Luke

Is the door working ok on manual (without the operator connected)? It could be that the door is too heavy or is binding in places. It would be worth disconnecting the operator and opening and closing the door manually a few times to check if it is working ok without the operator. If there is too much resistance it can cause issues with the learning cycles.

Phil

So, after a bit of a play around I still can’t seem to reset it. Cycling through the PRG button quickly seems to eventually find ‘1’ at the end of the menu, but soon returns to the flashing ‘4.’ The first letter that appears when I push PRG, is U, then L. When I run Learn mode, the door cycle is interrupted numerous times up and down, so I have to keep pushing up or down to finish it. I eventually see the single line display afterward, but only when I hit PRG. The display still shows ‘4., then the levels disappear again. Could be a system fault, but I feel small progress has been made!

Phil

Phil Hall

Hi guys hope you can help. When I try, I get C, but no J option from hard reset. It wants to go into Learn mode, but interrupts in 4 places. My display has been on 4. With the dot flashing. The only other option from the prg menu , other than 0-9 i can get is U which is to do with the remote I think. I’m not sure if the series is the first model as I can’t see anything on the serial number to suggest it’s a later model!
Thanks,
Phil

Daniel

Hello Phil,

What colour are the buttons on your Hormann hand held remote control?

Phil Hall

Hi Daniel, they are grey, and only have two buttons. The back says HS(M)2/4 if that helps at all

Thanks,
Phil

Luke

Hi Phil,
It Sounds like a series 1 head unit. The Series 1 had the PRG button underneath the display and it had a single digit display as opposed to a double digit display. There were 2 different software versions for these, one was a 7 menu option and the later ones were a 9 menu system but the reset procedure should be the same. To reset the doors limits you need to use menu 1. If I remember correctly, you don’t need to hold the PRG button down while powering the unit. Just press the PRG button to select menu 1. After a couple of seconds, the display should then turn to ‘L’ to indicate learning mode. press and release the up arrow first to set the up limit. then press and release the down arrow to set the down limit. once the door reaches the bottom it should automatically carry out a complete opening cycle. You may have to repeat this a few times before the operator shows a single line to indicate the limits have been reset. Error 4 can sometimes indicate an internal board failure so it is possible that the unit is faulty but often resetting the limits can correct the issue.

Phil Hall

Thanks Daniel, I think it is the original series. There seems to be 9 menus. I’ll have a play around with it, and let you know how it goes. Appreciate the advice

Phil

Mick Inglis

Hello
I have a supramatic 2 system, which has a fault condition when I try to open electrically.
Off load, Ie with the door disconnected it works fine, and reset was successful. On load, the door moves only a few inches on opening and stops. Fault condition code 5 appears on the display, following which the door will close again fine. I have tried assisting slightly by manually lifting the door as the controller operates, this sort of helps, but then the door will again stop at a random position, and the open command moves the door only a few inches again. Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
Thank you
Mick

Daniel

Hello Mick, Fault Error 5 indicates there is an error with the garage door and not the motor. There could be an obstruction stopping the garage door from closing/opening in the correct position for instance there might be something in the tracks or the door may be catching somewhere during its operation process. Once clearing the obstruction or preventing the door from catching you must then reset the operator to relearn its position again. If there is no visible sign of any obstructions, we would recommend calling out a professional garage door engineer to investigate further.

Terri

Our garage door openers only work now when you are really close to the door & pointed in a certain direction. We have it programmed to work in our vehicles also & the same thing is happening. Can rarely get the vehicle to open door any more, need to use remotes & play with them for a while before we get them just so to open the door. Is there a sensor or something that could be going bad that we can replace? Thanks for your help. We have really loved this garage door opener. Supermatic A with the gray remote buttons.

Daniel

Hello Terri, the receiver on the garage door is failing and needs to be replaced you can purchase them directly from our garage door spares web site here.

David Stoelen

I followed your steps – yet the door closed and then moved back to the fully open position. Any idea why? Cheers, Davis

Daniel

Hello David, the garage door should finish the procedure in the open position, so it sounds like the procedure completed successfully. Is the door now working correctly? If not is it displaying an error code?

Mark

Hi,

I have reset the series 2 operator but now the remote doesn’t work, understandably, and the up and down arrows don’t open and close the door. How do I sync the existing remote or even get back to the stage where pushing the up or down arrow once will automatically open or close the door ?

Daniel

Hello Mak, There should be an error code on the display screen on the operator, the error code may also display when you press the button to move the garage door up or down. Please post the error code here.

Jw

Hello, I followed the steps before to reset my supramatic P2, but by step 7 (Press the Up Arrow) the door doesn’t open and the display changed to code 6 with a flashing point. Can you help me?

Many thanks!

Luke

Hi,
Error ‘6.’ suggests that your operator is expecting a signal from a wicket door sensor. It could be a fault or it could be that the wicket door function is turned on in the service menu. The instruction manual that details how to locate and change the menu can be downloaded / viewed on the Hormann website at the link below. If you check out page 66 it shows you how to access the service menu and you need to make sure menu 4 is showing ‘5.’
