Create Your Dream Garage Door

Find the right choice for your space

Choosing a garage door can feel daunting, as well as exciting. With so many options available, what’s best for you and your budget? That’s where we come in. Our family-run business has been helping people just like you find their dream garage door for over 30 years – whether it’s a smart solution for your office or gym, or something secure for cars, bikes and valuables. With ABi, your garage door suppliers, finding a garage door in the UK has never been easier.

Garage Doors for Every Space

Every space is different – and that’s also true for what you’re using your space for. Over the years, we’ve seen it all: home theatres, craft rooms, recording studios and even the odd ‘man’ or ‘woman’ cave. As a leading garage door company, we can guide you on what to choose for your garage and tick off all your requirements, while being mindful of your budget. Here’s more about our range of new garage doors.

Up and Over Doors

Up and Over

Also known as retractable and canopy doors, these are one of the most common types. They work exactly how you’d think – lifting over your head and sitting in your roof space while open. You’ll find names like Garador and Hormann here.

Roller Doors

Roller

Many of our customers choose roller garage doors for their space, especially if it’s a compact or small-sized garage. These simply coil at the head of the doorway as they roll up. Secure and durable, they help keep thieves out – and your valuables in.

Insulated Roller Doors

Insulated Roller

Alongside our standard roller shutter doors, you’ll find insulated roller garage doors. These help keep your garage cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and add a useful weatherproofing element. A great investment for long-term energy savings, and those with a bedroom above or kitchen adjacent to the garage.

Sectional Doors

Sectional

Opening and closing vertically with a smooth, gliding action, these garage doors are similar to rollers, but sit inside your roof space instead of coiling in the doorway. Access, again, is easy – you don’t have to fully retract the door to enter your space. Lots of colours and finishes are also available in the range.

Side Sliding Doors

Side Sliding

Want your garage door to open from the side? With side sliding doors, an ingenious track runs along the length of your garage, tucking the door out of sight for easy access to your space. Automated and simple to operate, just click a button and go.

Overlap Doors

Bi-folding

Bi-folding garage doors, also known as overlap doors, offer the same advantages as sectional garage doors, but with a space-saving design. Instead of sliding horizontally on tracks, the panels fold on top of each other on a trackless system, maximising garage interior space.

Side Hinged

Side Hinged

These are ideal for customers who want a stylish solution for their garage door, especially if they use their space as an office or for recreation. Side hinged garage doors can look very similar to front doors in their design, and you don’t have to pick a traditional corrugated look if you want a more modern style.

Aluminium Frame Doors

Aluminium Frame

As the name suggests the doors are built using an aluminium frame and you can choose between Hormann’s range of 11 different infill variants, including glazed, mesh or steel. The doors allow more light, better ventilation and looks incredible.

Garage Side Doors

Side Doors

At ABi, we’re more than garage door suppliers. We can also supply matching garage side doors, personnel doors and front doors, and some of our garage doors can be glazed. Having matching doors can improve your home’s kerb appeal even further and create a more coordinated look.

Electric Doors

Automatic

Many of our products are available in manual or automated designs, which means you can choose the best solution for your budget. Even with electric doors running off your mains, selected doors come with a fail-safe: emergency emergency release in case of a power cut, or sensors that can detect an obstruction and stop the door from moving.

Matching Doors

Matching Doors

We provide an excellent service to allow you to have the same style, colour, design for your front, back or side door to your property, which matches with your garage door. Using the best sourced manufacturers such as; Endurance Composite Doors, Hormann Entrance Doors and RK Door Systems.

Wicket Garage Door Product

Wicket

Make life easier with a smaller pedestrian access door inside your main garage door (wicket). Available in up and over or sectional garage door types. Secure access, trip-free thresholds and a huge range of design options are available.

The Benefits of a New Garage Door

Garage doors have undergone significant advancements in the past decade. They now require minimal maintenance, offer enhanced security, and boast superior insulation thanks to their steel frames. Modern manufacturing techniques have also resulted in smoother operation.

Creating Your Garage Door

Garage door options

Choosing your door type

The first step in selecting a new garage door is deciding whether you need an insulated or non-insulated option. Most garage door styles are available in both types, but insulated doors tend to be more expensive.

It’s important to consider your garage’s size and shape when choosing a door. Certain types of garage doors might not fit your garage’s specific dimensions or require extra headroom.

To ensure you select the best option for your home, we recommend consulting with a garage door expert or booking a free site survey.

Choose your material

When choosing a new garage door, the material is a key consideration. Aluminum, steel, and wood are popular options. Aluminum and steel are durable, long-lasting, and require minimal maintenance. Wood is also long-lasting but needs regular upkeep to maintain its appearance.

Colour options

Most manufacturers offer a range of standard garage door colours to keep costs down. White is usually the most affordable option. If you prefer a specific colour to match your windows or front door, you can have your garage door custom painted. To achieve an exact match, you’ll need the original manufacturer’s colour reference number.

Designs

Manufacturers offer a wide range of designs for most garage door types, giving you plenty of options to choose from. However, roller garage doors have limited design choices, as they can only vary in colour and slat thickness. This is due to the way the door operates, rolling up into a coil above the garage opening.

Manual or electric operation

You can choose whether you want an electric or manual garage door for most door types. If you opt for manual, you can always add an electric motor later. However, there are exceptions: side-hinged and canopy up-and-over garage doors are only available as manual options.

Window options

Want to brighten up your garage? Consider adding windows to your garage door! There’s a wide range of options to choose from.

Customisation

Add a personal touch to your garage door with options like custom handles, letterboxes, smart phone technology, and digital keypads.

Useful Information

Everything you need to know

What is a garage door?
A garage door is a large, movable door that provides access to a garage. It can be automated or operated manually. Garage doors are typically constructed from metal, wood, or a combination of materials. Depending on the type of door, insulation values will vary. They come in various styles, designs, and colours.

Garage doors are designed to be safe, secure, reliable, and easy to operate. However, they are not completely waterproof. Seals around the door and frame, as well as a floor seal, can help prevent water from entering.

What’s the best kind of garage door for me?

Choosing the right garage door depends on several factors

Space

Roller doors are ideal for maximizing space as they don’t require ceiling tracks. They can be insulated or non-insulated, manual or electric.
If you lack headroom for a roller door and prefer manual operation, a side-hinged door is an option.

Insulation

Sectional garage doors offer the best insulation with options like Hörmann’s LPU 67 Thermo for superior performance.
Roller, bi-fold, and side sliding doors are also available with insulation.

Non-Insulated Options

For garages without insulation needs, consider up-and-over, single-skin roller, steel side-hinged, or single-skin panelled sectional doors.

Ease of Access

Side-hinged doors provide easy access and come in insulated or non-insulated options.
Side sliding doors offer automatic operation and can be partially opened.
Wicket doors within a garage door allow access without fully opening the door.

Windows

Most garage door types can accommodate windows.
Hörmann’s aluminum frame door offers maximum light and ventilation with fully glazed sections.

Who will fit my garage door?
At ABi, we have a team of fully-trained technicians who fit garage doors across our range, all over the UK. Expertly qualified, we go the extra mile and ensure they can handle any type of garage, so you can expect garage door fitters with experience in handling asbestos, health and safety, and even working at heights. Our team of garage door fitters has built a fantastic reputation over the years and is one of the reasons our customers choose us time and again for their projects.
How much does a new garage door cost?

The cost of a garage door can vary greatly depending on factors such as its type, manufacturer, material, size, colour, design, finish, and whether you choose electric or manual operation.

We recommend consulting with a garage door expert to discuss your options and get an accurate price based on a home survey.

How long does a garage door last for?
The lifespan of a garage door can vary depending on factors like the manufacturer, installation expertise, and the quality of fixings and hardware used. With a high-quality manufacturer, proper installation, and regular yearly maintenance, a garage door can last for over 30 years.
Insulated or non-insulated garage doors?
Insulated garage doors are generally more expensive than non-insulated options. However, both types offer high security and reliability.

Non-insulated garage doors provide a basic level of insulation, while insulated doors offer seals around the door to help prevent wind-driven debris and provide a better seal around the opening. Insulated doors also feature a core of polyurethane foam sandwiched between two panels of aluminium or galvanized steel.

If your garage is attached to your home, has a room above it, or is used as an office, gym, or workshop, an insulated garage door can offer significant benefits over a non-insulated option.

What happens to my electric garage door during a power outage?
All electric garage doors must have an emergency release mechanism by law. This allows you to open the door manually if there’s a power outage. The only exception is if you have another way to enter your garage, like a side door.
Maximising drive-through width

Garage doors can be installed in two ways: inside or behind the opening. Installing the door behind the opening maximises your drive-through width, as the frame is positioned behind rather than in the middle of the opening. However, if there’s not enough space behind the opening to fit the frame, the door must be installed inside the opening.

Another option is to use an up and over garage door with retractable plus gear, which allows the door arms to be set in a different position, to allow more space for your car’s wing mirrors.

Why choose ABi for my replacement garage door?

Up and Over Garage Doors: Affordable and Secure Options

Up-and-over garage doors, also called overhead doors, are available in wood, metal, or fiberglass (GRP). They are secure, durable, and operate smoothly. Choose from three different types of door gear: canopy, retractable, or retractable plus. Up-and-over garage doors function best when installed within the opening.

Sectional Doors: The Insulated Choice

Sectional garage doors are made of insulated panels, offering excellent thermal efficiency and security. Unlike traditional up-and-over doors, they open vertically, saving space in your driveway. Choose from a variety of materials, including wood and galvanized steel. Sectional doors also offer more customisation options in terms of colours and designs, making it easy to find the perfect match for your home.

Roller Garage Doors: Space-Saving Solutions

Roller garage doors are ideal for maximising space inside your garage. They roll up neatly into a compact box above the opening, leaving more room for parking or storage. Choose from two types: single-skinned steel doors, often used in industrial settings, or insulated double-skinned doors for better thermal performance. While design options are limited, you can customise the colour to match your home’s exterior.

Side-Hinged Garage Doors: A Classic Choice

Side-hinged garage doors, also known as barn doors, are available in wood or metal and offer insulated options for improved energy efficiency. Choose whether you want the door to open from one side or be split down the middle. These doors are particularly convenient if you frequently access your garage.

Wicket Garage Doors: The Best of Both Worlds

Wicket garage doors are a convenient addition to sectional or up-and-over doors, providing a smaller entrance for easy access to your garage. These doors offer a wide range of customisation options, including various colours, finishes, and designs, allowing you to create a unique look for your garage.

Aluminum Frame Doors: A Bright and Airy Choice

Aluminium frame doors, also known as glazed sectional garage doors, offer a fully glazed design that allows for ample natural light and ventilation in your garage. These doors are constructed with aluminium frames and glazed inserts, utilising the same sectional garage door gear as traditional models. Choose from a variety of frosted or clear glazed panels to suit your preferences. Popular in America, aluminium frame doors can be used in both residential and commercial settings.

Sliding Garage Doors: Maximise Space, Minimise Effort

Side sliding garage doors, also known as round-the-corner doors, are a great option for saving space and making access easier. You can open them partially, which is really convenient. They come in wood or metal, can be electric or manual, and offer a wide range of colours and styles to match your taste.

Bi-Folding Garage Doors: A Space-Efficient Option

Bi-folding garage doors, also known as overlap doors, use the same panels as sectional doors but employ a trackless system that allows the panels to fold on top of each other when open. This design maximises space inside your garage. The door panels can be solid or fully glazed to suit your preferences.

Matching Garage and Front Doors: A Stylish Touch

Matching your garage door and front door can create a cohesive and visually appealing exterior. Many garage door manufacturers now offer matching steel or aluminum entrance doors that complement their garage door designs and colours. Additionally, you can find composite doors that match the style and colour of your garage door or vice versa.

Garage Side Doors: A Practical Addition

Garage side doors, available in wood, metal, or composite materials, can be a convenient and stylish addition to your garage. Choose from a wide range of colours and designs to match your garage door and overall home aesthetic.
