The Barker Review of Housing Supply

In March 2004 the Barker Review of Housing Supply published its final report. The report was authored by economist Kate Barker and detailed a number of recommendations based on some very thorough and excellent analysis. One of the recommendations was that the UK needed to build around 250,000 new homes every year to prevent spiralling house prices and a shortage of affordable homes. A line in the report’s Foreword reads: ‘A weak supply of housing contributes to macroeconomic instability, and hinders labour market flexibility, constraining economic growth’.

Over 400 new homes planned for North Yorkshire

400 New Homes in York

Plans have been submitted for over 431 new homes in North Yorkshire with two major developments proposed in the Selby area. Hodgson’s Gate Development have applied to build 270 new homes on land in Sherburn-in-Elmet, promising “a mix of housing types including starter and family homes to meet the needs of existing and future residents”.

Property development in Farsley may lead to Garage Door Opportunities

Dozens of new homes are expected to be built off the ring road in West Leeds, after proposals were given the green light.

70 new homes in a field off Calverley Lane in Farsley have been planned, which is in addition to the planned Kirklees Knoll development, where over 400 homes are also being built. Both projects are expected to attract over 1500 people to Leeds.
