The Brief

A customer wanted to replace their aging garage door. As with a lot of older door installations, the drive through width was quite tight. Vehicles have grown wider over the years, especially with the increasing popularity of 4×4’s and ‘sport utility’ or ‘crossover’ vehicles. The most common width for a single garage door was traditionally around 7ft but over the last few years 8ft wide doors have started to become much more common. The original door had an automatic operator fitted that was in good working order and the customer wanted to re use this. Insulation of the door was also a consideration as the garage leads straight into the property.

Our Solution

After surveying the property we suggested looking at doors that would fit behind the garage opening as a ‘back fix’ – This would provide the maximum drive through width available without any structural alterations. After discussing a number of options with the customer we decided on a Hormann LPU40 made to measure sectional door finished in a decograin timber effect, to compliment the property’s entrance door. Sectional garage doors work well fitted behind the opening and the Hormann LPU40 would work well with the existing automation system. The insulating properties of the 40mm thick panels offer very high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation.

Installation

The existing door and operator was removed and the Hormann LPU40 sectional door was installed behind the opening. The original automation system was then tested and connected to the new door. We finished the installation with matching PVC.
