The Brief

Peter Holmes Developments required a sectional door for a new build property in Halifax. The garage featured natural stone construction with a smooth head and jambs. Hormann 2004 Georgian design retractable plus door installed in Bradford

The Brief

We were contacted by a customer who wanted to replace their existing manual up and over garage door. They were in the process of renovating the front of their concrete garage and wanted a new automatic door. Up and over garage doors come in two ‘flavours’ – canopy and retractable. Often older manual doors will be using canopy door gear. Canopy door gear is not as easy to automate and the mechanism required reduces the drive through height.

Hormann made to measure LPU40 Decograin timber effect sectional garage door installed in Leeds

The Brief

A customer wanted to replace their aging garage door. As with a lot of older door installations, the drive through width was quite tight. Vehicles have grown wider over the years, especially with the increasing popularity of 4×4’s and ‘sport utility’ or ‘crossover’ vehicles. The most common width for a single garage door was traditionally around 7ft but over the last few years 8ft wide doors have started to become much more common. The original door had an automatic operator fitted that was in good working order and the customer wanted to re use this. Insulation of the door was also a consideration as the garage leads straight into the property.

This was a fairly recently built property in Leeds that had a standard up and over door fitted. The up and over door was not really providing adequate thermal insulation during the colder months and as there was a bedroom above the garage and an internal door that led directly into the house the customer wanted to replace the door with an insulated product.

A customer wanted to replace their garage doors and at the same time achieve the maximum amount of length available to accommodate their vehicle in the garage. We installed the doors in-between the brickwork, further forward than the existing doors were fitted, bringing them up to the front of the garage opening, which would gain the maximum amount of space possible.
